US Electricity Demand Up 2.3% Last Week--EEI
The Edison Electric Institute tracks US electricity demand on a weekly basis. Today it reported that last week electricity demand was up 2.3% year over year. Total usage was 76,813 gigawatt-hours of electricity in the week ended Sept 11. Four of the nine regions in the 48 contiguous states posted increases over 2009 in electric output, with the Southeast region posting the largest increase at 8.3%. Year to date, power demand is up 4.5%. The EEI's seasonally adjusted weekly electrical index was up points to 168.
